Ask for the gram weight per square meter of curtain fabric. Heavier weaves provide better insulation and sound dampening. Thin voiles block less light but fit narrow brackets. Confirm the material resists fading if placed near south-facing windows. Request physical samples to assess texture and drape before committing to a purchase.
Ask if the pro brings a level and drilling kit. Check for bracket alignment. Uneven fittings cause operational issues later. Verify they use appropriate wall anchors for your specific wall type. Drywall requires different screws than concrete. Poor installation leads to sagging or jammed mechanisms. Inspect the finished bracket work carefully yourself.
Decide if you need a separate liner behind the main curtain. Liners add warmth and privacy without blocking all light. This adds cost and complexity. Measure both widths separately to allow for proper gathering. Confirm whether the quote includes labor for installing two layers of fabric on a single hook system or requires dual rails.
Dust slats every 2 weeks with a duster. Vacuum sheer curtains gently on low settings. Use mild soap for fabric cleaning. Avoid harsh chemicals that strip finishes. Test cleaners on a hidden area first. Misguided wiping fades colors permanently. Proper care maintains texture and color vibrancy over several years of use.
Do not trust marketing terms for blackout performance. Ask for the solar heat gain coefficient or thermal resistance value. Some fabrics block light but not heat. Look for dual-layer construction with a tight weave. Confirm the material meets specific energy efficiency standards. This affects your heating and cooling bills significantly during extreme weather seasons.
Determine how far the rod extends beyond the window frame. A standard extension is 15 to 20 cm on each side. This prevents light leaks when curtains are closed. Measure the exact length needed to gather fabric properly without touching the floor. Confirm the installer can accommodate custom lengths without extra labor charges.
Standard production takes about 2 to 4 weeks. Custom fabric orders may take longer. Booking installation requires scheduling after delivery. Rush fees apply for expedited orders. Confirm the delivery window before signing. Delays happen due to fabric backorders or shipping issues. Keep the deposit receipt to track order status effectively without stress.
Ask what size screws and anchors the installer uses for drywall versus brick. Thin walls require specific anchors to prevent bracket pull-out. Heavy curtain rods need deep hold. Verify the installer brings appropriate fasteners for your specific wall material. Missing or incorrect anchors are a common cause of falling hardware later on.
Compare quotes based on identical specs. Check if the price includes measurement visits. Verify warranty duration in writing. Confirm whether installation labor is separate from product cost. Look for clarity on return policies. Vague quotes hide future charges. Detailed line items allow fair comparison between different local providers easily.
Measure the width and height of the window recess precisely. Use a steel tape measure, not a flexible one. Check all 4 sides because walls are rarely square. Note the distance from the sill to the floor. Incorrect measurements lead to returned goods and extra charges. Always record the channel width for custom blinds.
